What do you know about the unknown?
Will a journey in quest of meaning will ever be enough?
February is associated with love because of Valentine’s Day. What do you know about Valentine’s Day besides a day to celebrate love, have a romantic dinner with their partner, giving gifts like flowers, chocolates, or other special surprises for their loved ones? Did Valentine’s Day this year feel special?
I’m not a Valentine’s Day person even though I have celebrated it a couple times. It usually feels like another ordinary day, but this year, I wanted to write an article about this love day.
Thinking of Valentine’s day makes me wonder about love. I’m not in a romantic mood but I want to appreciate my self-acceptance and self-love journey.
On this Valentine’s Day, I want to express it through my outfit. I try to continue learning to be more grateful since “Another White to Begin an End”. This time, I wear brown palette to express self-love and how grateful I am with the life I currently have.
The brown color is identical with chocolate, which becomes one of Valentine’s Day symbol. It has a connection with the earth and has a down to earth characteristic. This color also symbolizes stability, and structure which gives protection and safety.

I want to wear something I rarely wear and using a brown chocolate pallet, so I wear a brown dress, which also can be worn as a long vest.
Since I didn’t need to carry so many stuff, I decided to wear my Louis Vuitton Damier Papillon bag. This bag is my favorite, it’s light, so comfortable to wear, has a classic shape, and great size that can fit many things!
Brown is a neutral color, but to avoid looking too dark or monotone, I wear my gold ring with a green stone and add a touch of Valentine’s love vibes by wearing my Kate Spade red pumps.
Most of us associate Valentine’s Day with romantic colors like pink or red.
Styling my look this time makes me wonder about the story behind this love celebration day. Why love and romantic? Why 14 February? That makes me realize… I never know the history of Valentine’s Day.
The name Valentine refers to Saint Valentine.
“Saint Valentine of Rome was a priest and bishop in the Roman Empire who ministered to Christians who were persecuted there.” – Wikipedia
Back then, Valentine defied an Emperor who outlawed marriage for young men by secretly continue performing marriages for young lovers and when his actions were discovered, he was sentenced to death.
There are other stories about Valentine and read this interesting article “History of Valentine’s Day” to find out more about it.
“According to one legend, an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first “valentine” greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl–possibly his jailor’s daughter–who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter signed “From your Valentine,” an expression that is still in use today.” – History
It turns out, marketing indeed can have a very powerful impact on life. Richard Cadbury who owns the famous Cadbury chocolate company is believed to be the first one who makes chocolate the symbol of romantic love. You can read Celebrating Valentines Day with A Box of Chocolates to find out more about it.
Styling Valentine’s Day outfit reminds me again to appreciate my effort to accept and love myself and grateful for the loves I have from God, the universe, and all the people surrounding me.
I begin to realize how important to know history also feel more passionate to keep learning and knowing more things. Honestly, I feel ashamed… celebrating Valentine’s Day couple times without knowing the story behind it.
